The
Raisin in the Sun
In the play The Raisin in the Sun there are symbols, and themes that you
can’t see with the naked eye. There are two important symbols in this play. The
first symbol is Asagi. The second very important symbol is the plant. Every
genre has a theme, and the theme in this story makes you think about; how you
treat, and think about your family. The Raisin in the sun by Lorraine Hansberry
she made this play because she wanted to tell something about her life. This
play wasn’t completely based on her life.
Asagi is the symbol of hope, love,
and compassion. In The Raisin in the Sun Asagi gave Bennie hope when she was in
the dumps. He sat with Bennie on the stairs and gave her a beautiful speech
about how she shouldn’t give up on her dreams. When this occurred Asagi asked her
to move with him back to his home town to become a doctor. This is how Asagi
represents hope by giving her hope, and his students. Asagi also give hope to
his students by teaching them about his culture and language.
The
plant represents the family and their struggles. Even though the plant doesn’t
get a lot of fun light it stays standing. It shows the struggle of the family
When the leaves on the plant weathers away. Even thought the plant looks like
it about to die Lena nurtures the plant just like she does her family. Every
time Lena got upset she’d took care of that plant like it was expose to repair
her family. That’s how the plant represented the family and their struggle.
The
overall theme of this story is to love your family, and family is more
important than money. When they fought, and as Lena says wished each other was
dead. Even through all that they cared for one another. In one of the scenes
Ruth started to cry Walter got out of his angry manner, and try to cheer up
Ruth. Another example is when Walter called Linder. He was going to take money
until he saw his family face, and most importantly Travis’s. In that scene
Walter got his man hood a politely told him there moving. That’s how the theme
is family is important.
The
Raisin in the Sun shows symbols that are invisible to the naked eye. While you
read this play it makes you think; why does the plant comes up in every other
scenes. It’s because is symbolizing something. This play makes you think about
the life back when a whole lot was different. Like the way they think, and how
they live. The Raisin in the Sun is a play that changed people lives and they
way they thought.
Destanie this is very good however, there are a few grammatical errors that we will discuss when I return.
